The practical answer
Choose a PDF editor by the task, not just the word “editor.” Fileixa adds text and images, while revising existing paragraphs needs a different workflow. Check whether another service’s advertised feature requires an account or paid plan, and review its file-handling terms before uploading a sensitive document.
Looking for an iLovePDF alternative?
Start with the job you want to finish: edit a PDF online, merge documents, reduce file size, convert PDF to Word or remove a watermark from your own file. Fileixa provides separate tools for these tasks. Its PDF editor adds new text and images; it does not rewrite existing paragraphs.
Fileixa also offers Spanish-language merge, compression and conversion tools. Other tools and this guide are currently in English. Fileixa is an independent service and is not affiliated with iLovePDF.
PDF watermark removal and image watermark removal are different tasks
For a PDF or Word document, use Remove Watermark when the mark is a supported separate object, such as a draft stamp or Word watermark. A logo baked into a scanned page is part of its pixels and cannot be lifted out by the document tool.
For a JPG, PNG or WebP image you can edit, use the image watermark remover and mark the visible area to rebuild. It estimates the missing pixels from the surrounding image; results depend on the background and can blur fine detail. Inspect the downloaded result rather than assuming every mark can be removed cleanly.
Separate adding content from changing existing text
Adding a text box, inserting an image and rewriting an existing paragraph are different capabilities. A service may describe all of them as PDF editing, but that description does not tell you which operations are available in your session or plan.
Fileixa’s implementation adds text and image overlays. Its editor does not directly rewrite the original paragraphs. For that task, use the original source file or a reviewed PDF-to-Word conversion. This distinction is more useful than an unsupported claim that one editor is the best for everyone.
What the public competitor pages describe
When reviewed on October 11, 2026, iLovePDF’s editor page described adding text, images, shapes and annotations. Sejda’s editor described both adding content and editing existing text. Smallpdf’s public page distinguished free-account editing features from direct text editing available with its Pro subscription.
Adobe’s online PDF editor page described an online editing and commenting workflow. These are public product descriptions, not independent performance or privacy tests. Account rules, plan limits and available features can change, so check the linked service pages before choosing or paying.
Use a checklist that matches your actual document
Try the tool on a non-sensitive sample with the same structure as your real document.
- Does it add new text, or does it actually change the original words?
- Does your form contain interactive fields, or is it just a scanned image?
- Does the recipient accept a visual signature, or require an identity-verified digital signing service?
- Does OCR return a transcript, an editable document, or a PDF with a searchable text layer?
- Can you download the output without an account, and are there relevant plan or file-size limits?
- Can the finished file be opened and inspected in a different PDF viewer?
Check file handling before uploading private documents
An online interface does not necessarily mean that processing stays on your device. Fileixa’s document-processing workflow uploads files to its backend. Review the privacy policy and any restrictions that apply to your document before using an online service.
Do not assume another company’s certifications, retention period or encryption claims apply to Fileixa. For a document that must stay offline, choose an appropriate offline workflow. A public marketing page is not a substitute for your organization’s data-handling requirements.
Choose a workflow instead of switching tools at random
For a short note or logo, use an overlay editor. For existing paragraphs, revise the source or convert to an editable document and check the result. For a bundle of documents, merge, inspect the order and compress only if required. For sensitive content, use and verify a redaction workflow.
This comparison intentionally avoids traffic estimates, invented user ratings and unsupported price rankings. The practical test is whether a service performs your required operation and produces an output that you can verify.
