Add a watermark to a PDF

Stamp a custom text watermark across every page of a PDF to mark drafts, confidential files, or ownership clearly.

Stamp custom text diagonally across every page of a PDF — mark drafts, confidential documents, or proofs before you share them.

What the watermark is

Your text is drawn onto every page as part of the page content, at the font size, colour, angle and transparency you choose. Use it to mark a document as DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL, or to label copies sent to a specific recipient.

A watermark discourages casual copying but it is not a security control: a determined person with editing software can remove or cover it. To stop people opening the file at all, add a password with Protect PDF.

How to use this tool

  1. Upload the PDF you want to watermark.
  2. Enter the watermark text, opacity, and angle.
  3. Download the PDF with the watermark applied to every page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I control how visible the watermark is?

Yes, the opacity setting (0 to 1) controls how faint or bold the watermark text appears.

Can I change the angle of the text?

Yes, set any angle from -90 to 90 degrees to rotate the watermark text.

Tips

  • Light grey at 20–30% opacity keeps the text underneath readable.
  • A recipient name ("Copy for J. Smith") is more effective against leaks than a generic word.
