A 1 MB limit shows up in job portals, HR and CRM systems, online forms and chat apps that preview documents. It is roomy enough that a CV with a photo, a multi-page report or ten scanned pages usually fits without any visible change. Fileixa starts with lossless compression, which repacks the file’s internal data more tightly, and in most cases that alone gets the file under 1 MB. Image-heavy files are then turned into page images at falling resolution, and you see the final size before you send it.
One megabyte is a common ceiling for online forms, CRM and HR systems and chat apps that preview documents. Text-based PDFs of dozens of pages fit easily; for scans and photo-heavy reports, 1 MB usually keeps pages fully readable.
First the PDF is recompressed losslessly, which keeps text selectable and images untouched. If that already fits, you are done with no loss of quality. If not, the pages are turned into compressed images at progressively lower resolution and quality until the file fits, and the smallest version that fits is kept.
That second step is lossy: text in the result is no longer selectable, and fine print gets softer as the target shrinks. The tool always reports whether the target was reached; if even the strongest pass cannot fit, you get the smallest file it could make, labelled as a miss rather than passed off as a success.
Rarely at 1 MB. A CV is mostly text, so lossless compression usually gets it under 1 MB with the photo untouched and the text selectable.
A file that large usually means very high-resolution colour scans. Rescan at 200 dpi, or split the file with Split PDF and upload the parts separately if the portal allows several files.
Combine documents in the right order, remove unnecessary pages, then reduce the final PDF size without assuming that merging automatically compresses it.
