Convert an HEIC/HEIF photo — the default format on recent iPhones — into a widely compatible JPG or PNG file that opens correctly on any device, browser, or app.
iPhones and many Android phones save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container), which is about half the size of a JPG at similar quality. Windows without an extension, many websites and older software cannot open it, which is why a HEIC photo often "won't upload".
Converting to JPG gives a file that opens everywhere. Choose PNG instead if you plan to edit the image repeatedly, since PNG does not lose quality on each save.
Converted files keep the picture. If you want to remove the location and camera data a phone stores in every photo before sharing, use Image Metadata afterwards.
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, a format many apps and websites still don’t support directly — converting to JPG or PNG fixes that.
Converting to PNG is lossless; converting to JPG uses a high-quality setting, so any quality loss is minimal and not visible in normal use.
What HEIC is, why Windows and many websites reject it, whether converting loses quality, and how to make your phone take photos that open everywhere.
